1A gentle answer turns away wrath, But a harsh word stirs up anger.
1回答柔和,使怒消退;言語暴戾,觸動怒氣。
2The tongue of the wise makes knowledge acceptable, But the mouth of fools spouts folly.
2智慧人的舌善發知識;愚昧人的口吐出愚昧。
3The eyes of the LORD are in every place, Watching the evil and the good.
3耶和華的眼目無處不在;惡人善人,他都鑒察。
4A soothing tongue is a tree of life, But perversion in it crushes the spirit.
4溫良的舌是生命樹;乖謬的嘴使人心碎。
5A fool rejects his father's discipline, But he who regards reproof is sensible.
5愚妄人藐視父親的管教;領受責備的,得著見識。
6Great wealth is [in] the house of the righteous, But trouble is in the income of the wicked.
6義人家中多有財寶;惡人得利反受擾害。
7The lips of the wise spread knowledge, But the hearts of fools are not so.
7智慧人的嘴播揚知識;愚昧人的心並不如此。
8The sacrifice of the wicked is an abomination to the LORD, But the prayer of the upright is His delight.
8惡人獻祭,為耶和華所憎惡;正直人祈禱,為他所喜悅。
9The way of the wicked is an abomination to the LORD, But He loves one who pursues righteousness.
9惡人的道路,為耶和華所憎惡;追求公義的,為他所喜愛。
10Grievous punishment is for him who forsakes the way; He who hates reproof will die.
10捨棄正路的,必受嚴刑;恨惡責備的,必致死亡。
11Sheol and Abaddon [lie open] before the LORD, How much more the hearts of men!
11陰間和滅亡尚在耶和華眼前,何況世人的心呢?
12A scoffer does not love one who reproves him, He will not go to the wise.
12褻慢人不愛受責備;他也不就近智慧人。
13A joyful heart makes a cheerful face, But when the heart is sad, the spirit is broken.
13心中喜樂,面帶笑容;心裡憂愁,靈被損傷。
14The mind of the intelligent seeks knowledge, But the mouth of fools feeds on folly.
14聰明人心求知識;愚昧人口吃愚昧。
15All the days of the afflicted are bad, But a cheerful heart [has] a continual feast.
15困苦人的日子都是愁苦;心中歡暢的,常享豐筵。
16Better is a little with the fear of the LORD Than great treasure and turmoil with it.
16少有財寶,敬畏耶和華,強如多有財寶,煩亂不安。
17Better is a dish of vegetables where love is Than a fattened ox [served] with hatred.
17吃素菜,彼此相愛,強如吃肥牛,彼此相恨。
18A hot-tempered man stirs up strife, But the slow to anger calms a dispute.
18暴怒的人挑啟爭端;忍怒的人止息紛爭。
19The way of the lazy is as a hedge of thorns, But the path of the upright is a highway.
19懶惰人的道像荊棘的籬笆;正直人的路是平坦的大道。
20A wise son makes a father glad, But a foolish man despises his mother.
20智慧子使父親喜樂;愚昧人藐視母親。
21Folly is joy to him who lacks sense, But a man of understanding walks straight.
21無知的人以愚妄為樂;聰明的人按正直而行。
22Without consultation, plans are frustrated, But with many counselors they succeed.
22不先商議,所謀無效;謀士眾多,所謀乃成。
23A man has joy in an apt answer, And how delightful is a timely word!
23口善應對,自覺喜樂;話合其時,何等美好。
24The path of life [leads] upward for the wise That he may keep away from Sheol below.
24智慧人從生命的道上升,使他遠離在下的陰間。
25The LORD will tear down the house of the proud, But He will establish the boundary of the widow.
25耶和華必拆毀驕傲人的家,卻要立定寡婦的地界。
26Evil plans are an abomination to the LORD, But pleasant words are pure.
26惡謀為耶和華所憎惡;良言乃為純淨。
27He who profits illicitly troubles his own house, But he who hates bribes will live.
27貪戀財利的,擾害己家;恨惡賄賂的,必得存活。
28The heart of the righteous ponders how to answer, But the mouth of the wicked pours out evil things.
28義人的心,思量如何回答;惡人的口吐出惡言。
29The LORD is far from the wicked, But He hears the prayer of the righteous.
29耶和華遠離惡人,卻聽義人的禱告。
30Bright eyes gladden the heart; Good news puts fat on the bones.
30眼有光,使心喜樂;好信息,使骨滋潤。
31He whose ear listens to the life-giving reproof Will dwell among the wise.
31聽從生命責備的,必常在智慧人中。
32He who neglects discipline despises himself, But he who listens to reproof acquires understanding.
32棄絕管教的,輕看自己的生命;聽從責備的,卻得智慧。
33The fear of the LORD is the instruction for wisdom, And before honor [comes] humility.
33敬畏耶和華是智慧的訓誨;尊榮以前,必有謙卑。
