1Wine is a mocker, strong drink a brawler, And whoever is intoxicated by it is not wise.
1酒能使人褻慢,濃酒使人喧嚷;凡因酒錯誤的,就無智慧。
2The terror of a king is like the growling of a lion; He who provokes him to anger forfeits his own life.
2王的威嚇如同獅子吼叫;惹動他怒的,是自害己命。
3Keeping away from strife is an honor for a man, But any fool will quarrel.
3遠離紛爭是人的尊榮;愚妄人都愛爭鬧。
4The sluggard does not plow after the autumn, So he begs during the harvest and has nothing.
4懶惰人因冬寒不肯耕種,到收割的時候,他必討飯而無所得。
5A plan in the heart of a man is [like] deep water, But a man of understanding draws it out.
5人心懷藏謀略,好像深水,惟明哲人才能汲引出來。
6Many a man proclaims his own loyalty, But who can find a trustworthy man?
6人多述說自己的仁慈,但忠信人誰能遇著呢?
7A righteous man who walks in his integrity-- How blessed are his sons after him.
7行為純正的義人,他的子孫是有福的!
8A king who sits on the throne of justice Disperses all evil with his eyes.
8王坐在審判的位上,以眼目驅散諸惡。
9Who can say, 'I have cleansed my heart, I am pure from my sin '?
9誰能說,我潔淨了我的心,我脫淨了我的罪?
10Differing weights and differing measures, Both of them are abominable to the LORD.
10兩樣的法碼,兩樣的升斗,都為耶和華所憎惡。
11It is by his deeds that a lad distinguishes himself If his conduct is pure and right.
11孩童的動作是清潔,是正直,都顯明他的本性。
12The hearing ear and the seeing eye, The LORD has made both of them.
12能聽的耳,能看的眼,都是耶和華所造的。
13Do not love sleep, or you will become poor; Open your eyes, [and] you will be satisfied with food.
13不要貪睡,免致貧窮;眼要睜開,你就吃飽。
14'Bad, bad,' says the buyer, But when he goes his way, then he boasts.
14買物的說:不好,不好;及至買去,他便自誇。
15There is gold, and an abundance of jewels; But the lips of knowledge are a more precious thing.
15有金子和許多珍珠(或譯:紅寶石),惟有知識的嘴乃為貴重的珍寶。
16Take his garment when he becomes surety for a stranger; And for foreigners, hold him in pledge.
16誰為生人作保,就拿誰的衣服;誰為外人作保,誰就要承當。
17Bread obtained by falsehood is sweet to a man, But afterward his mouth will be filled with gravel.
17以虛謊而得的食物,人覺甘甜;但後來,他的口必充滿塵沙。
18Prepare plans by consultation, And make war by wise guidance.
18計謀都憑籌算立定;打仗要憑智謀。
19He who goes about as a slanderer reveals secrets, Therefore do not associate with a gossip.
19往來傳舌的,洩漏密事;大張嘴的,不可與他結交。
20He who curses his father or his mother, His lamp will go out in time of darkness.
20咒罵父母的,他的燈必滅,變為漆黑的黑暗。
21An inheritance gained hurriedly at the beginning Will not be blessed in the end.
21起初速得的產業,終久卻不為福。
22Do not say, 'I will repay evil'; Wait for the LORD, and He will save you.
22你不要說,我要以惡報惡;要等候耶和華,他必拯救你。
23Differing weights are an abomination to the LORD, And a false scale is not good.
23兩樣的法碼為耶和華所憎惡;詭詐的天平也為不善。
24Man's steps are [ordained] by the LORD, How then can man understand his way?
24人的腳步為耶和華所定;人豈能明白自己的路呢?
25It is a trap for a man to say rashly, 'It is holy!' And after the vows to make inquiry.
25人冒失說,這是聖物,許願之後才查問,就是自陷網羅。
26A wise king winnows the wicked, And drives the [threshing] wheel over them.
26智慧的王簸散惡人,用碌碡滾軋他們。
27The spirit of man is the lamp of the LORD, Searching all the innermost parts of his being.
27人的靈是耶和華的燈,鑒察人的心腹。
28Loyalty and truth preserve the king, And he upholds his throne by righteousness.
28王因仁慈和誠實得以保全他的國位,也因仁慈立穩。
29The glory of young men is their strength, And the honor of old men is their gray hair.
29強壯乃少年人的榮耀;白髮為老年人的尊榮。
30Stripes that wound scour away evil, And strokes [reach] the innermost parts.
30鞭傷除淨人的罪惡;責打能入人的心腹。
