1Now the LORD spoke to Moses in the plains of Moab by the Jordan [opposite] Jericho, saying,
1耶和華在摩押平原─約但河邊、耶利哥對面曉諭摩西說：
2'Command the sons of Israel that they give to the Levites from the inheritance of their possession cities to live in; and you shall give to the Levites pasture lands around the cities.
2你吩咐以色列人，要從所得為業的地中把些城給利未人居住，也要把這城四圍的郊野給利未人。
3'The cities shall be theirs to live in; and their pasture lands shall be for their cattle and for their herds and for all their beasts.
3這城邑要歸他們居住，城邑的郊野可以牧養他們的牛羊和各樣的牲畜，又可以安置他們的財物。
4'The pasture lands of the cities which you shall give to the Levites [shall extend] from the wall of the city outward a thousand cubits around.
4你們給利未人的郊野，要從城根起，四圍往外量一千肘。
5'You shall also measure outside the city on the east side two thousand cubits, and on the south side two thousand cubits, and on the west side two thousand cubits, and on the north side two thousand cubits, with the city in the center. This shall become theirs as pasture lands for the cities.
5另外東量二千肘，南量二千肘，西量二千肘，北量二千肘，為邊界，城在當中；這要歸他們作城邑的郊野。
6'The cities which you shall give to the Levites [shall be] the six cities of refuge, which you shall give for the manslayer to flee to; and in addition to them you shall give forty-two cities.
6你們給利未人的城邑，其中當有六座逃城，使誤殺人的可以逃到那裡。此外還要給他們四十二座城。
7'All the cities which you shall give to the Levites [shall be] forty-eight cities, together with their pasture lands.
7你們要給利未人的城，共有四十八座，連城帶郊野都要給他們。
8'As for the cities which you shall give from the possession of the sons of Israel, you shall take more from the larger and you shall take less from the smaller; each shall give some of his cities to the Levites in proportion to his possession which he inherits.'
8以色列人所得的地業從中要把些城邑給利未人；人多的就多給，人少的就少給；各支派要按所承受為業之地把城邑給利未人。
9Then the LORD spoke to Moses, saying,
9耶和華曉諭摩西說：
10'Speak to the sons of Israel and say to them, 'When you cross the Jordan into the land of Canaan,
10你吩咐以色列人說：你們過約但河，進了迦南地，
11then you shall select for yourselves cities to be your cities of refuge, that the manslayer who has killed any person unintentionally may flee there.
11就要分出幾座城，為你們作逃城，使誤殺人的可以逃到那裡。
12'The cities shall be to you as a refuge from the avenger, so that the manslayer will not die until he stands before the congregation for trial.
12這些城可以作逃避報仇人的城，使誤殺人的不至於死，等他站在會眾面前聽審判。
13'The cities which you are to give shall be your six cities of refuge.
13你們所分出來的城，要作六座逃城。
14'You shall give three cities across the Jordan and three cities in the land of Canaan; they are to be cities of refuge.
14在約但河東要分出三座城，在迦南地也要分出三座城，都作逃城。
15'These six cities shall be for refuge for the sons of Israel, and for the alien and for the sojourner among them; that anyone who kills a person unintentionally may flee there.
15這六座城要給以色列人和他們中間的外人，並寄居的，作為逃城，使誤殺人的都可以逃到那裡。
16'But if he struck him down with an iron object, so that he died, he is a murderer; the murderer shall surely be put to death.
16倘若人用鐵器打人，以致打死，他就是故殺人的；故殺人的必被治死。
17'If he struck him down with a stone in the hand, by which he will die, and [as a result] he died, he is a murderer; the murderer shall surely be put to death.
17若用可以打死人的石頭打死了人，他就是故殺人的；故殺人的必被治死。
18'Or if he struck him with a wooden object in the hand, by which he might die, and [as a result] he died, he is a murderer; the murderer shall surely be put to death.
18若用可以打死人的木器打死了人，他就是故殺人的；故殺人的必被治死。
19'The blood avenger himself shall put the murderer to death; he shall put him to death when he meets him.
19報血仇的必親自殺那故殺人的，一遇見就殺他。
20'If he pushed him of hatred, or threw something at him lying in wait and [as a result] he died,
20人若因怨恨把人推倒，或是埋伏往人身上扔物，以致於死，
21or if he struck him down with his hand in enmity, and [as a result] he died, the one who struck him shall surely be put to death, he is a murderer; the blood avenger shall put the murderer to death when he meets him.
21或是因仇恨用手打人，以致於死，那打人的必被治死。他是故殺人的；報血仇的一遇見就殺他。
22'But if he pushed him suddenly without enmity, or threw something at him without lying in wait,
22倘若人沒有仇恨，忽然將人推倒，或是沒有埋伏把物扔在人身上，
23or with any deadly object of stone, and without seeing it dropped on him so that he died, while he was not his enemy nor seeking his injury,
23或是沒有看見的時候用可以打死人的石頭扔在人身上，以致於死，本來與他無仇，也無意害他。
24then the congregation shall judge between the slayer and the blood avenger according to these ordinances.
24會眾就要照典章，在打死人的和報血仇的中間審判。
25'The congregation shall deliver the manslayer from the hand of the blood avenger, and the congregation shall restore him to his city of refuge to which he fled; and he shall live in it until the death of the high priest who was anointed with the holy oil.
25會眾要救這誤殺人的脫離報血仇人的手，也要使他歸入逃城。他要住在其中，直等到受聖膏的大祭司死了。
26'But if the manslayer at any time goes beyond the border of his city of refuge to which he may flee,
26但誤殺人的，無論甚麼時候，若出了逃城的境外，
27and the blood avenger finds him outside the border of his city of refuge, and the blood avenger kills the manslayer, he will not be guilty of blood
27報血仇的在逃城境外遇見他，將他殺了，報血仇的就沒有流血之罪。
28because he should have remained in his city of refuge until the death of the high priest. But after the death of the high priest the manslayer shall return to the land of his possession.
28因為誤殺人的該住在逃城裡，等到大祭司死了。大祭司死了以後，誤殺人的才可以回到他所得為業之地。
29'These things shall be for a statutory ordinance to you throughout your generations in all your dwellings.
29這在你們一切的住處，要作你們世世代代的律例典章。
30'If anyone kills a person, the murderer shall be put to death at the evidence of witnesses, but no person shall be put to death on the testimony of one witness.
30無論誰故殺人，要憑幾個見證人的口把那故殺人的殺了，只是不可憑一個見證的口叫人死。
31'Moreover, you shall not take ransom for the life of a murderer who is guilty of death, but he shall surely be put to death.
31故殺人、犯死罪的，你們不可收贖價代替他的命；他必被治死。
32'You shall not take ransom for him who has fled to his city of refuge, that he may return to live in the land before the death of the priest.
32那逃到逃城的人，你們不可為他收贖價，使他在大祭司未死以先再來住在本地。
33'So you shall not pollute the land in which you are; for blood pollutes the land and no expiation can be made for the land for the blood that is shed on it, except by the blood of him who shed it.
33這樣，你們就不污穢所住之地，因為血是污穢地的；若有在地上流人血的，非流那殺人者的血，那地就不得潔淨（潔淨原文作贖）。
34'You shall not defile the land in which you live, in the midst of which I dwell; for I the LORD am dwelling in the midst of the sons of Israel.''
34你們不可玷污所住之地，就是我住在其中之地，因為我─耶和華住在以色列人中間。
