1Now the sons of Reuben and the sons of Gad had an exceedingly large number of livestock. So when they saw the land of Jazer and the land of Gilead, that it was indeed a place suitable for livestock,
1流便子孫和迦得子孫的牲畜極其眾多；他們看見雅謝地和基列地是可牧放牲畜之地，
2the sons of Gad and the sons of Reuben came and spoke to Moses and to Eleazar the priest and to the leaders of the congregation, saying,
2就來見摩西和祭司以利亞撒，並會眾的首領，說：
3'Ataroth, Dibon, Jazer, Nimrah, Heshbon, Elealeh, Sebam, Nebo and Beon,
3亞大錄、底本、雅謝、寧拉、希實本、以利亞利、示班、尼波、比穩，
4the land which the LORD conquered before the congregation of Israel, is a land for livestock, and your servants have livestock.'
4就是耶和華在以色列會眾前面所攻取之地，是可牧放牲畜之地，你僕人也有牲畜；
5They said, 'If we have found favor in your sight, let this land be given to your servants as a possession; do not take us across the Jordan.'
5又說：我們若在你眼前蒙恩，求你把這地給我們為業，不要領我們過約但河。
6But Moses said to the sons of Gad and to the sons of Reuben, 'Shall your brothers go to war while you yourselves sit here?
6摩西對迦得子孫和流便子孫說：難道你們的弟兄去打仗，你們竟坐在這裡麼？
7'Now why are you discouraging the sons of Israel from crossing over into the land which the LORD has given them?
7你們為何使以色列人灰心喪膽、不過去進入耶和華所賜給他們的那地呢？
8'This is what your fathers did when I sent them from Kadesh-barnea to see the land.
8我先前從加低斯巴尼亞打發你們先祖去窺探那地，他們也是這樣行。
9'For when they went up to the valley of Eshcol and saw the land, they discouraged the sons of Israel so that they did not go into the land which the LORD had given them.
9他們上以實各谷，去窺探那地回來的時候，使以色列人灰心喪膽，不進入耶和華所賜給他們的地。
10'So the LORD'S anger burned in that day, and He swore, saying,
10當日，耶和華的怒氣發作，就起誓說：
11'None of the men who came up from Egypt, from twenty years old and upward, shall see the land which I swore to Abraham, to Isaac and to Jacob; for they did not follow Me fully,
11凡從埃及上來、二十歲以外的人斷不得看見我對亞伯拉罕、以撒、雅各起誓應許之地，因為他們沒有專心跟從我。
12except Caleb the son of Jephunneh the Kenizzite and Joshua the son of Nun, for they have followed the LORD fully.'
12惟有基尼洗族耶孚尼的兒子迦勒和嫩的兒子約書亞可以看見，因為他們專心跟從我。
13'So the LORD'S anger burned against Israel, and He made them wander in the wilderness forty years, until the entire generation of those who had done evil in the sight of the LORD was destroyed.
13耶和華的怒氣向以色列人發作，使他們在曠野飄流四十年，等到在耶和華眼前行惡的那一代人都消滅了。
14'Now behold, you have risen up in your fathers' place, a brood of sinful men, to add still more to the burning anger of the LORD against Israel.
14誰知，你們起來接續先祖，增添罪人的數目，使耶和華向以色列大發烈怒。
15'For if you turn away from following Him, He will once more abandon them in the wilderness, and you will destroy all these people.'
15你們若退後不跟從他，他還要把以色列人撇在曠野，便是你們使這眾民滅亡。
16Then they came near to him and said, 'We will build here sheepfolds for our livestock and cities for our little ones;
16兩支派的人挨近摩西，說：我們要在這裡為牲畜壘圈，為婦人孩子造城。
17but we ourselves will be armed ready [to go] before the sons of Israel, until we have brought them to their place, while our little ones live in the fortified cities because of the inhabitants of the land.
17我們自己要帶兵器行在以色列人的前頭，好把他們領到他們的地方；但我們的婦人孩子，因這地居民的緣故，要住在堅固的城內。
18'We will not return to our homes until every one of the sons of Israel has possessed his inheritance.
18我們不回家，直等到以色列人各承受自己的產業。
19'For we will not have an inheritance with them on the other side of the Jordan and beyond, because our inheritance has fallen to us on this side of the Jordan toward the east.'
19我們不和他們在約但河那邊一帶之地同受產業，因為我們的產業是坐落在約但河東邊這裡。
20So Moses said to them, 'If you will do this, if you will arm yourselves before the LORD for the war,
20摩西對他們說：你們若這樣行，在耶和華面前帶著兵器出去打仗，
21and all of you armed men cross over the Jordan before the LORD until He has driven His enemies out from before Him,
21所有帶兵器的人都要在耶和華面前過約但河，等他趕出他的仇敵，
22and the land is subdued before the LORD, then afterward you shall return and be free of obligation toward the LORD and toward Israel, and this land shall be yours for a possession before the LORD.
22那地被耶和華制伏了，然後你們可以回來，向耶和華和以色列才為無罪，這地也必在耶和華面前歸你們為業。
23'But if you will not do so, behold, you have sinned against the LORD, and be sure your sin will find you out.
23倘若你們不這樣行，就得罪耶和華，要知道你們的罪必追上你們。
24'Build yourselves cities for your little ones, and sheepfolds for your sheep, and do what you have promised.'
24如今你們口中所出的，只管去行，為你們的婦人孩子造城，為你們的羊群壘圈。
25The sons of Gad and the sons of Reuben spoke to Moses, saying, 'Your servants will do just as my lord commands.
25迦得子孫和流便子孫對摩西說：僕人要照我主所吩咐的去行。
26'Our little ones, our wives, our livestock and all our cattle shall remain there in the cities of Gilead;
26我們的妻子、孩子、羊群，和所有的牲畜都要留在基列的各城。
27while your servants, everyone who is armed for war, will cross over in the presence of the LORD to battle, just as my lord says.'
27但你的僕人，凡帶兵器的，都要照我主所說的話，在耶和華面前過去打仗。
28So Moses gave command concerning them to Eleazar the priest, and to Joshua the son of Nun, and to the heads of the fathers' [households] of the tribes of the sons of Israel.
28於是，摩西為他們囑咐祭司以利亞撒和嫩的兒子約書亞，並以色列眾支派的族長，說：
29Moses said to them, 'If the sons of Gad and the sons of Reuben, everyone who is armed for battle, will cross with you over the Jordan in the presence of the LORD, and the land is subdued before you, then you shall give them the land of Gilead for a possession;
29迦得子孫和流便子孫，凡帶兵器在耶和華面前去打仗的，若與你們一同過約但河，那地被你們制伏了，你們就要把基列地給他們為業。
30but if they will not cross over with you armed, they shall have possessions among you in the land of Canaan.'
30倘若他們不帶兵器和你們一同過去，就要在迦南地你們中間得產業。
31The sons of Gad and the sons of Reuben answered, saying, 'As the LORD has said to your servants, so we will do.
31迦得子孫和流便子孫回答說：耶和華怎樣吩咐僕人，僕人就怎樣行。
32'We ourselves will cross over armed in the presence of the LORD into the land of Canaan, and the possession of our inheritance [shall remain] with us across the Jordan.'
32我們要帶兵器，在耶和華面前過去，進入迦南地，只是約但河這邊、我們所得為業之地仍歸我們。
33So Moses gave to them, to the sons of Gad and to the sons of Reuben and to the half-tribe of Joseph's son Manasseh, the kingdom of Sihon, king of the Amorites and the kingdom of Og, the king of Bashan, the land with its cities with [their] territories, the cities of the surrounding land.
33摩西將亞摩利王西宏的國和巴珊王噩的國，連那地和周圍的城邑，都給了迦得子孫和流便子孫，並約瑟的兒子瑪拿西半個支派。
34The sons of Gad built Dibon and Ataroth and Aroer,
34迦得子孫建造底本、亞他錄、亞羅珥、
35and Atroth-shophan and Jazer and Jogbehah,
35亞他錄朔反、雅謝、約比哈、
36and Beth-nimrah and Beth-haran as fortified cities, and sheepfolds for sheep.
36伯寧拉、伯哈蘭，都是堅固城。他們又壘羊圈。
37The sons of Reuben built Heshbon and Elealeh and Kiriathaim,
37流便子孫建造希實本、以利亞利、基列亭、
38and Nebo and Baal-meon-- [their] names being changed-- and Sibmah, and they gave [other] names to the cities which they built.
38尼波、巴力免、西比瑪（尼波、巴力免，名字是改了的），又給他們所建造的城另起別名。
39The sons of Machir the son of Manasseh went to Gilead and took it, and dispossessed the Amorites who were in it.
39瑪拿西的兒子瑪吉，他的子孫往基列去，佔了那地，趕出那裡的亞摩利人。
40So Moses gave Gilead to Machir the son of Manasseh, and he lived in it.
40摩西將基列賜給瑪拿西的兒子瑪吉，他子孫就住在那裡。
41Jair the son of Manasseh went and took its towns, and called them Havvoth-jair.
41瑪拿西的子孫睚珥去佔了基列的村莊，就稱這些村莊為哈倭特睚珥。
42Nobah went and took Kenath and its villages, and called it Nobah after his own name.
42挪巴去佔了基納和基納的鄉村，就按自己的名稱基納為挪巴。
