1When the Canaanite, the king of Arad, who lived in the Negev, heard that Israel was coming by the way of Atharim, then he fought against Israel and took some of them captive.
1住南地的迦南人亞拉得王，聽說以色列人從亞他林路來，就和以色列人爭戰，擄了他們幾個人。
2So Israel made a vow to the LORD and said, 'If You will indeed deliver this people into my hand, then I will utterly destroy their cities.'
2以色列人向耶和華發願說：你若將這民交付我手，我就把他們的城邑盡行毀滅。
3The LORD heard the voice of Israel and delivered up the Canaanites; then they utterly destroyed them and their cities. Thus the name of the place was called Hormah.
3耶和華應允了以色列人，把迦南人交付他們，他們就把迦南人和迦南人的城邑盡行毀滅。那地方的名便叫何珥瑪（何珥瑪就是毀滅的意思）。
4Then they set out from Mount Hor by the way of the Red Sea, to go around the land of Edom; and the people became impatient because of the journey.
4他們從何珥山起行，往紅海那條路走，要繞過以東地。百姓因這路難行，心中甚是煩躁，
5The people spoke against God and Moses, 'Why have you brought us up out of Egypt to die in the wilderness? For there is no food and no water, and we loathe this miserable food.'
5就怨讟神和摩西說：你們為甚麼把我們從埃及領出來、使我們死在曠野呢？這裡沒有糧，沒有水，我們的心厭惡這淡薄的食物。
6The LORD sent fiery serpents among the people and they bit the people, so that many people of Israel died.
6於是耶和華使火蛇進入百姓中間，蛇就咬他們。以色列人中死了許多。
7So the people came to Moses and said, 'We have sinned, because we have spoken against the LORD and you; intercede with the LORD, that He may remove the serpents from us.' And Moses interceded for the people.
7百姓到摩西那裡，說：我們怨讟耶和華和你，有罪了。求你禱告耶和華，叫這些蛇離開我們。於是摩西為百姓禱告。
8Then the LORD said to Moses, 'Make a fiery [serpent], and set it on a standard; and it shall come about, that everyone who is bitten, when he looks at it, he will live.'
8耶和華對摩西說：你製造一條火蛇，掛在杆子上；凡被咬的，一望這蛇，就必得活。
9And Moses made a bronze serpent and set it on the standard; and it came about, that if a serpent bit any man, when he looked to the bronze serpent, he lived.
9摩西便製造一條銅蛇，掛在杆子上；凡被蛇咬的，一望這銅蛇就活了。
10Now the sons of Israel moved out and camped in Oboth.
10以色列人起行，安營在阿伯。
11They journeyed from Oboth and camped at Iyeabarim, in the wilderness which is opposite Moab, to the east.
11又從阿伯起行，安營在以耶亞巴琳，與摩押相對的曠野，向日出之地。
12From there they set out and camped in Wadi Zered.
12從那裡起行，安營在撒烈谷。
13From there they journeyed and camped on the other side of the Arnon, which is in the wilderness that comes out of the border of the Amorites, for the Arnon is the border of Moab, between Moab and the Amorites.
13從那裡起行，安營在亞嫩河那邊。這亞嫩河是在曠野，從亞摩利的境界流出來的；原來亞嫩河是摩押的邊界，在摩押和亞摩利人搭界的地方。
14Therefore it is said in the Book of the Wars of the LORD, 'Waheb in Suphah, And the wadis of the Arnon,
14所以耶和華的戰記上說：蘇法的哇哈伯與亞嫩河的谷，
15And the slope of the wadis That extends to the site of Ar, And leans to the border of Moab.'
15並向亞珥城眾谷的下坡，是靠近摩押的境界。
16From there [they continued] to Beer, that is the well where the LORD said to Moses, 'Assemble the people, that I may give them water.'
16以色列人從那裡起行，到了比珥（比珥就是井的意思）。從前耶和華吩咐摩西說：招聚百姓，我好給他們水喝，說的就是這井。
17Then Israel sang this song: 'Spring up, O well! Sing to it!
17當時，以色列人唱歌說：井阿，湧上水來！你們要向這井歌唱。
18'The well, which the leaders sank, Which the nobles of the people dug, With the scepter [and] with their staffs.' And from the wilderness [they continued] to Mattanah,
18這井是首領和民中的尊貴人用圭用杖所挖所掘的。以色列人從曠野往瑪他拿去，
19and from Mattanah to Nahaliel, and from Nahaliel to Bamoth,
19從瑪他拿到拿哈列，從拿哈列到巴末，
20and from Bamoth to the valley that is in the land of Moab, at the top of Pisgah which overlooks the wasteland.
20從巴末到了摩押地的谷，又到那下望曠野之毘斯迦的山頂。
21Then Israel sent messengers to Sihon, king of the Amorites, saying,
21以色列人差遣使者去見亞摩利人的王西宏，說：
22'Let me pass through your land. We will not turn off into field or vineyard; we will not drink water from wells. We will go by the king's highway until we have passed through your border.'
22求你容我們從你的地經過；我們不偏入田間和葡萄園，也不喝井裡的水，只走大道（原文作王道），直到過了你的境界。
23But Sihon would not permit Israel to pass through his border. So Sihon gathered all his people and went out against Israel in the wilderness, and came to Jahaz and fought against Israel.
23西宏不容以色列人從他的境界經過，就招聚他的眾民出到曠野，要攻擊以色列人，到了雅雜與以色列人爭戰。
24Then Israel struck him with the edge of the sword, and took possession of his land from the Arnon to the Jabbok, as far as the sons of Ammon; for the border of the sons of Ammon [was] Jazer.
24以色列人用刀殺了他，得了他的地，從亞嫩河到雅博河，直到亞捫人的境界，因為亞捫人的境界多有堅壘。
25Israel took all these cities and Israel lived in all the cities of the Amorites, in Heshbon, and in all her villages.
25以色列人奪取這一切的城邑，也住亞摩利人的城邑，就是希實本與希實本的一切鄉村。
26For Heshbon was the city of Sihon, king of the Amorites, who had fought against the former king of Moab and had taken all his land out of his hand, as far as the Arnon.
26這希實本是亞摩利王西宏的京城；西宏曾與摩押的先王爭戰，從他手中奪取了全地，直到亞嫩河。
27Therefore those who use proverbs say, 'Come to Heshbon! Let it be built! So let the city of Sihon be established.
27所以那些作詩歌的說：你們來到希實本；願西宏的城被修造，被建立。
28'For a fire went forth from Heshbon, A flame from the town of Sihon; It devoured Ar of Moab, The dominant heights of the Arnon.
28因為有火從希實本發出，有火燄出於西宏的城，燒盡摩押的亞珥和亞嫩河邱壇的祭司（祭司原文作主）。
29'Woe to you, O Moab! You are ruined, O people of Chemosh! He has given his sons as fugitives, And his daughters into captivity, To an Amorite king, Sihon.
29摩押阿，你有禍了！基抹的民哪，你們滅亡了！基抹的男子逃奔，女子被擄，交付亞摩利的王西宏。
30'But we have cast them down, Heshbon is ruined as far as Dibon, Then we have laid waste even to Nophah, Which [reaches] to Medeba.'
30我們射了他們；希實本直到底本盡皆毀滅。我們使地變成荒場，直到挪法；這挪法直延到米底巴。
31Thus Israel lived in the land of the Amorites.
31這樣，以色列人就住在亞摩利人之地。
32Moses sent to spy out Jazer, and they captured its villages and dispossessed the Amorites who [were] there.
32摩西打發人去窺探雅謝，以色列人就佔了雅謝的鎮市，趕出那裡的亞摩利人。
33Then they turned and went up by the way of Bashan, and Og the king of Bashan went out with all his people, for battle at Edrei.
33以色列人轉回，向巴珊去。巴珊王噩和他的眾民都出來，在以得來與他們交戰。
34But the LORD said to Moses, 'Do not fear him, for I have given him into your hand, and all his people and his land; and you shall do to him as you did to Sihon, king of the Amorites, who lived at Heshbon.'
34耶和華對摩西說：不要怕他！因我已將他和他的眾民，並他的地，都交在你手中；你要待他像從前待住希實本的亞摩利王西宏一般。
35So they killed him and his sons and all his people, until there was no remnant left him; and they possessed his land.
35於是他們殺了他和他的眾子，並他的眾民，沒有留下一個，就得了他的地。
