1Now [there was] a man at Caesarea named Cornelius, a centurion of what was called the Italian cohort,
1在該撒利亞有一個人，名叫哥尼流，是義大利營的百夫長。
2a devout man and one who feared God with all his household, and gave many alms to the [Jewish] people and prayed to God continually.
2他是個虔誠人，他和全家都敬畏神，多多賙濟百姓，常常禱告神。
3About the ninth hour of the day he clearly saw in a vision an angel of God who had [just] come in and said to him, 'Cornelius!'
3有一天，約在申初，他在異象中明明看見神的一個使者進去，到他那裡，說：哥尼流。
4And fixing his gaze on him and being much alarmed, he said, 'What is it, Lord?' And he said to him, 'Your prayers and alms have ascended as a memorial before God.
4哥尼流定睛看他，驚怕說：主阿，甚麼事呢？天使說：你的禱告和你的賙濟達到神面前，已蒙記念了。
5'Now dispatch [some] men to Joppa and send for a man [named] Simon, who is also called Peter;
5現在你當打發人往約帕去，請那稱呼彼得的西門來。
6he is staying with a tanner [named] Simon, whose house is by the sea.'
6他住在海邊一個硝皮匠西門的家裡，房子在海邊上。
7When the angel who was speaking to him had left, he summoned two of his servants and a devout soldier of those who were his personal attendants,
7向他說話的天使去後，哥尼流叫了兩個家人和常伺候他的一個虔誠兵來，
8and after he had explained everything to them, he sent them to Joppa.
8把這事都述說給他們聽，就打發他們往約帕去。
9On the next day, as they were on their way and approaching the city, Peter went up on the housetop about the sixth hour to pray.
9第二天，他們行路將近那城。彼得約在午正，上房頂去禱告，
10But he became hungry and was desiring to eat; but while they were making preparations, he fell into a trance;
10覺得餓了，想要吃。那家的人正預備飯的時候，彼得魂遊象外，
11and he saw the sky opened up, and an object like a great sheet coming down, lowered by four corners to the ground,
11看見天開了，有一物降下，好像一塊大布，繫著四角，縋在地上，
12and there were in it all [kinds of] four-footed animals and crawling creatures of the earth and birds of the air.
12裡面有地上各樣四足的走獸和昆蟲，並天上的飛鳥；
13A voice came to him, 'Get up, Peter, kill and eat!'
13又有聲音向他說：彼得，起來，宰了吃！
14But Peter said, 'By no means, Lord, for I have never eaten anything unholy and unclean.'
14彼得卻說：主阿，這是不可的！凡俗物和不潔淨的物，我從來沒有吃過。
15Again a voice [came] to him a second time, 'What God has cleansed, no [longer] consider unholy.'
15第二次有聲音向他說：神所潔淨的，你不可當作俗物。
16This happened three times, and immediately the object was taken up into the sky.
16這樣一連三次，那物隨即收回天上去了。
17Now while Peter was greatly perplexed in mind as to what the vision which he had seen might be, behold, the men who had been sent by Cornelius, having asked directions for Simon's house, appeared at the gate;
17彼得心裡正在猜疑之間，不知所看見的異象是甚麼意思。哥尼流所差來的人已經訪問到西門的家，站在門外，
18and calling out, they were asking whether Simon, who was also called Peter, was staying there.
18喊著問：有稱呼彼得的西門住在這裡沒有？
19While Peter was reflecting on the vision, the Spirit said to him, 'Behold, three men are looking for you.
19彼得還思想那異象的時候，聖靈向他說：有三個人來找你。
20'But get up, go downstairs and accompany them without misgivings, for I have sent them Myself.'
20起來，下去，和他們同往，不要疑惑，因為是我差他們來的。
21Peter went down to the men and said, 'Behold, I am the one you are looking for; what is the reason for which you have come?'
21於是彼得下去見那些人，說：我就是你們所找的人。你們來是為甚麼緣故？
22They said, 'Cornelius, a centurion, a righteous and God-fearing man well spoken of by the entire nation of the Jews, was [divinely] directed by a holy angel to send for you [to come] to his house and hear a message from you.'
22他們說：百夫長哥尼流是個義人，敬畏神，為猶太通國所稱讚。他蒙一位聖天使指示，叫他請你到他家裡去，聽你的話。
23So he invited them in and gave them lodging. And on the next day he got up and went away with them, and some of the brethren from Joppa accompanied him.
23彼得就請他們進去，住了一宿。次日，起身和他們同去，還有約帕的幾個弟兄同著他去；
24On the following day he entered Caesarea. Now Cornelius was waiting for them and had called together his relatives and close friends.
24又次日，他們進入該撒利亞，哥尼流已經請了他的親屬密友等候他們。
25When Peter entered, Cornelius met him, and fell at his feet and worshiped [him].
25彼得一進去，哥尼流就迎接他，俯伏在他腳前拜他。
26But Peter raised him up, saying, 'Stand up; I too am [just] a man.'
26彼得拉他，說：你起來，我也是人。
27As he talked with him, he entered and found many people assembled.
27彼得和他說著話進去，見有好些人在那裡聚集，
28And he said to them, 'You yourselves know how unlawful it is for a man who is a Jew to associate with a foreigner or to visit him; and [yet] God has shown me that I should not call any man unholy or unclean.
28就對他們說：你們知道，猶太人和別國的人親近來往本是不合例的，但神已經指示我，無論甚麼人都不可看作俗而不潔淨的。
29'That is why I came without even raising any objection when I was sent for. So I ask for what reason you have sent for me.'
29所以我被請的時候，就不推辭而來。現在請問：你們叫我來有甚麼意思呢？
30Cornelius said, 'Four days ago to this hour, I was praying in my house during the ninth hour; and behold, a man stood before me in shining garments,
30哥尼流說：前四天，這個時候，我在家中守著申初的禱告，忽然有一個人穿著光明的衣裳，站在我面前，
31and he said, 'Cornelius, your prayer has been heard and your alms have been remembered before God.
31說：哥尼流，你的禱告已蒙垂聽，你的賙濟達到神面前已蒙記念了。
32'Therefore send to Joppa and invite Simon, who is also called Peter, to come to you; he is staying at the house of Simon [the] tanner by the sea.'
32你當打發人往約帕去，請那稱呼彼得的西門來，他住在海邊一個硝皮匠西門的家裡。
33'So I sent for you immediately, and you have been kind enough to come. Now then, we are all here present before God to hear all that you have been commanded by the Lord.'
33所以我立時打發人去請你。你來了很好；現今我們都在神面前，要聽主所吩咐你的一切話。
34Opening his mouth, Peter said: 'I most certainly understand [now] that God is not one to show partiality,
34彼得就開口說：我真看出神是不偏待人。
35but in every nation the man who fears Him and does what is right is welcome to Him.
35原來，各國中那敬畏主、行義的人都為主所悅納。
36'The word which He sent to the sons of Israel, preaching peace through Jesus Christ (He is Lord of all)--
36神藉著耶穌基督（他是萬有的主）傳和平的福音，將這道賜給以色列人。
37you yourselves know the thing which took place throughout all Judea, starting from Galilee, after the baptism which John proclaimed.
37這話在約翰宣傳洗禮以後，從加利利起，傳遍了猶太。
38'[You know of] Jesus of Nazareth, how God anointed Him with the Holy Spirit and with power, and [how] He went about doing good and healing all who were oppressed by the devil, for God was with Him.
38神怎樣以聖靈和能力膏拿撒勒人耶穌，這都是你們知道的。他周流四方，行善事，醫好凡被魔鬼壓制的人，因為神與他同在。
39'We are witnesses of all the things He did both in the land of the Jews and in Jerusalem. They also put Him to death by hanging Him on a cross.
39他在猶太人之地，並耶路撒冷所行的一切事，有我們作見證。他們竟把他掛在木頭上殺了。
40'God raised Him up on the third day and granted that He become visible,
40第三日，神叫他復活，顯現出來；
41not to all the people, but to witnesses who were chosen beforehand by God, [that is], to us who ate and drank with Him after He arose from the dead.
41不是顯現給眾人看，乃是顯現給神預先所揀選為他作見證的人看，就是我們這些在他從死裡復活以後和他同吃同喝的人。
42'And He ordered us to preach to the people, and solemnly to testify that this is the One who has been appointed by God as Judge of the living and the dead.
42他吩咐我們傳道給眾人，證明他是神所立定的，要作審判活人、死人的主。
43'Of Him all the prophets bear witness that through His name everyone who believes in Him receives forgiveness of sins.'
43眾先知也為他作見證說：凡信他的人必因他的名得蒙赦罪。
44While Peter was still speaking these words, the Holy Spirit fell upon all those who were listening to the message.
44彼得還說這話的時候，聖靈降在一切聽道的人身上。
45All the circumcised believers who came with Peter were amazed, because the gift of the Holy Spirit had been poured out on the Gentiles also.
45那些奉割禮、和彼得同來的信徒，見聖靈的恩賜也澆在外邦人身上，就都希奇；
46For they were hearing them speaking with tongues and exalting God. Then Peter answered,
46因聽見他們說方言，稱讚神為大。
47'Surely no one can refuse the water for these to be baptized who have received the Holy Spirit just as we [did], can he?'
47於是彼得說：這些人既受了聖靈，與我們一樣，誰能禁止用水給他們施洗呢？
48And he ordered them to be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ. Then they asked him to stay on for a few days.
48就吩咐奉耶穌基督的名給他們施洗。他們又請彼得住了幾天。
