1Now it came about when he had finished speaking to Saul, that the soul of Jonathan was knit to the soul of David, and Jonathan loved him as himself.
1大衛對掃羅說完了話，約拿單的心與大衛的心深相契合。約拿單愛大衛，如同愛自己的性命。
2Saul took him that day and did not let him return to his father's house.
2那日掃羅留住大衛，不容他再回父家。
3Then Jonathan made a covenant with David because he loved him as himself.
3約拿單愛大衛如同愛自己的性命，就與他結盟。
4Jonathan stripped himself of the robe that was on him and gave it to David, with his armor, including his sword and his bow and his belt.
4約拿單從身上脫下外袍，給了大衛，又將戰衣、刀、弓、腰帶都給了他。
5So David went out wherever Saul sent him, [and] prospered; and Saul set him over the men of war. And it was pleasing in the sight of all the people and also in the sight of Saul's servants.
5掃羅無論差遣大衛往何處去，他都做事精明。掃羅就立他作戰士長，眾百姓和掃羅的臣僕無不喜悅。
6It happened as they were coming, when David returned from killing the Philistine, that the women came out of all the cities of Israel, singing and dancing, to meet King Saul, with tambourines, with joy and with musical instruments.
6大衛打死了那非利士人，同眾人回來的時候，婦女們從以色列各城裡出來，歡歡喜喜，打鼓擊磬，歌唱跳舞，迎接掃羅王。
7The women sang as they played, and said, 'Saul has slain his thousands, And David his ten thousands.'
7眾婦女舞蹈唱和，說：掃羅殺死千千，大衛殺死萬萬。
8Then Saul became very angry, for this saying displeased him; and he said, 'They have ascribed to David ten thousands, but to me they have ascribed thousands. Now what more can he have but the kingdom?'
8掃羅甚發怒，不喜悅這話，就說：將萬萬歸大衛，千千歸我，只剩下王位沒有給他了。
9Saul looked at David with suspicion from that day on.
9從這日起，掃羅就怒視大衛。
10Now it came about on the next day that an evil spirit from God came mightily upon Saul, and he raved in the midst of the house, while David was playing [the harp] with his hand, as usual; and a spear [was] in Saul's hand.
10次日，從神那裡來的惡魔大大降在掃羅身上，他就在家中胡言亂語。大衛照常彈琴，掃羅手裡拿著槍。
11Saul hurled the spear for he thought, 'I will pin David to the wall.' But David escaped from his presence twice.
11掃羅把槍一掄，心裡說，我要將大衛刺透，釘在牆上。大衛躲避他兩次。
12Now Saul was afraid of David, for the LORD was with him but had departed from Saul.
12掃羅懼怕大衛；因為耶和華離開自己，與大衛同在。
13Therefore Saul removed him from his presence and appointed him as his commander of a thousand; and he went out and came in before the people.
13所以掃羅使大衛離開自己，立他為千夫長，他就領兵出入。
14David was prospering in all his ways for the LORD [was] with him.
14大衛做事無不精明，耶和華也與他同在。
15When Saul saw that he was prospering greatly, he dreaded him.
15掃羅見大衛做事精明，就甚怕他。
16But all Israel and Judah loved David, and he went out and came in before them.
16但以色列和猶大眾人都愛大衛，因為他領他們出入。
17Then Saul said to David, 'Here is my older daughter Merab; I will give her to you as a wife, only be a valiant man for me and fight the LORD'S battles.' For Saul thought, 'My hand shall not be against him, but let the hand of the Philistines be against him.'
17掃羅對大衛說：我將大女兒米拉給你為妻，只要你為我奮勇，為耶和華爭戰。掃羅心裡說：我不好親手害他，要藉非利士人的手害他。
18But David said to Saul, 'Who am I, and what is my life [or] my father's family in Israel, that I should be the king's son-in-law?'
18大衛對掃羅說：我是誰，我是甚麼出身，我父家在以色列中是何等的家，豈敢作王的女婿呢？
19So it came about at the time when Merab, Saul's daughter, should have been given to David, that she was given to Adriel the Meholathite for a wife.
19掃羅的女兒米拉到了當給大衛的時候，掃羅卻給了米何拉人亞得列為妻。
20Now Michal, Saul's daughter, loved David. When they told Saul, the thing was agreeable to him.
20掃羅的次女米甲愛大衛。有人告訴掃羅，掃羅就喜悅。
21Saul thought, 'I will give her to him that she may become a snare to him, and that the hand of the Philistines may be against him.' Therefore Saul said to David, 'For a second time you may be my son-in-law today.'
21掃羅心裡說：我將這女兒給大衛，作他的網羅，好藉非利士人的手害他。所以掃羅對大衛說：你今日可以第二次作我的女婿。
22Then Saul commanded his servants, 'Speak to David secretly, saying, 'Behold, the king delights in you, and all his servants love you; now therefore, become the king's son-in-law.''
22掃羅吩咐臣僕說：你們暗中對大衛說：王喜悅你，王的臣僕也都喜愛你，所以你當作王的女婿。
23So Saul's servants spoke these words to David. But David said, 'Is it trivial in your sight to become the king's son-in-law, since I am a poor man and lightly esteemed?'
23掃羅的臣僕就照這話說給大衛聽。大衛說：你們以為作王的女婿是一件小事麼？我是貧窮卑微的人。
24The servants of Saul reported to him according to these words [which] David spoke.
24掃羅的臣僕回奏說，大衛所說的如此如此。
25Saul then said, 'Thus you shall say to David, 'The king does not desire any dowry except a hundred foreskins of the Philistines, to take vengeance on the king's enemies.'' Now Saul planned to make David fall by the hand of the Philistines.
25掃羅說：你們要對大衛這樣說：王不要甚麼聘禮，只要一百非利士人的陽皮，好在王的仇敵身上報仇。掃羅的意思要使大衛喪在非利士人的手裡。
26When his servants told David these words, it pleased David to become the king's son-in-law. Before the days had expired
26掃羅的臣僕將這話告訴大衛，大衛就歡喜作王的女婿。日期還沒有到，
27David rose up and went, he and his men, and struck down two hundred men among the Philistines. Then David brought their foreskins, and they gave them in full number to the king, that he might become the king's son-in-law. So Saul gave him Michal his daughter for a wife.
27大衛和跟隨他的人起身前往，殺了二百非利士人，將陽皮滿數交給王，為要作王的女婿。於是掃羅將女兒米甲給大衛為妻。
28When Saul saw and knew that the LORD was with David, and [that] Michal, Saul's daughter, loved him,
28掃羅見耶和華與大衛同在，又知道女兒米甲愛大衛，
29then Saul was even more afraid of David. Thus Saul was David's enemy continually.
29就更怕大衛，常作大衛的仇敵。
30Then the commanders of the Philistines went out [to battle], and it happened as often as they went out, that David behaved himself more wisely than all the servants of Saul. So his name was highly esteemed.
30每逢非利士軍長出來打仗，大衛比掃羅的臣僕做事精明，因此他的名被人尊重。
