1Amaziah was twenty-five years old when he became king, and he reigned twenty-nine years in Jerusalem. And his mother's name was Jehoaddan of Jerusalem.
1亞瑪謝登基的時候年二十五歲，在耶路撒冷作王二十九年。他母親名叫約耶但，是耶路撒冷人。
2He did right in the sight of the LORD, yet not with a whole heart.
2亞瑪謝行耶和華眼中看為正的事，只是心不專誠。
3Now it came about as soon as the kingdom was firmly in his grasp, that he killed his servants who had slain his father the king.
3國一堅定，就把殺他父王的臣僕殺了，
4However, he did not put their children to death, but [did] as it is written in the law in the book of Moses, which the LORD commanded, saying, 'Fathers shall not be put to death for sons, nor sons be put to death for fathers, but each shall be put to death for his own sin.'
4卻沒有治死他們的兒子，是照摩西律法書上耶和華所吩咐的說：不可因子殺父，也不可因父殺子，各人要為本身的罪而死。
5Moreover, Amaziah assembled Judah and appointed them according to [their] fathers' households under commanders of thousands and commanders of hundreds throughout Judah and Benjamin; and he took a census of those from twenty years old and upward and found them to be 300,000 choice men, [able] to go to war [and] handle spear and shield.
5亞瑪謝招聚猶大人，按著猶大和便雅憫的宗族設立千夫長、百夫長，又數點人數，從二十歲以外，能拿槍拿盾牌出去打仗的精兵共有三十萬；
6He hired also 100,000 valiant warriors out of Israel for one hundred talents of silver.
6又用銀子一百他連得，從以色列招募了十萬大能的勇士。
7But a man of God came to him saying, 'O king, do not let the army of Israel go with you, for the LORD is not with Israel [nor with] any of the sons of Ephraim.
7有一個神人來見亞瑪謝，對他說：王啊，不要使以色列的軍兵與你同去，因為耶和華不與以色列人以法蓮的後裔同在。
8'But if you do go, do [it], be strong for the battle; [yet] God will bring you down before the enemy, for God has power to help and to bring down.'
8你若一定要去，就奮勇爭戰罷！但神必使你敗在敵人面前；因為 神能助人得勝，也能使人傾敗。
9Amaziah said to the man of God, 'But what [shall we] do for the hundred talents which I have given to the troops of Israel?' And the man of God answered, 'The LORD has much more to give you than this.'
9亞瑪謝問神人說：我給了以色列軍的那一百他連得銀子怎麼樣呢？ 神人回答說：耶和華能把更多的賜給你。
10Then Amaziah dismissed them, the troops which came to him from Ephraim, to go home; so their anger burned against Judah and they returned home in fierce anger.
10於是亞瑪謝將那從以法蓮來的軍兵分別出來，叫他們回家去。故此，他們甚惱怒猶大人，氣忿忿地回家去了。
11Now Amaziah strengthened himself and led his people forth, and went to the Valley of Salt and struck down 10,000 of the sons of Seir.
11亞瑪謝壯起膽來，率領他的民到鹽谷，殺了西珥人一萬。
12The sons of Judah also captured 10,000 alive and brought them to the top of the cliff and threw them down from the top of the cliff, so that they were all dashed to pieces.
12猶大人又生擒了一萬帶到山崖上，從那裡把他們扔下去，以致他們都摔碎了。
13But the troops whom Amaziah sent back from going with him to battle, raided the cities of Judah, from Samaria to Beth-horon, and struck down 3,000 of them and plundered much spoil.
13但亞瑪謝所打發回去、不許一同出征的那些軍兵攻打猶大各城，從撒瑪利亞直到伯和崙，殺了三千人，搶了許多財物。
14Now after Amaziah came from slaughtering the Edomites, he brought the gods of the sons of Seir, set them up as his gods, bowed down before them and burned incense to them.
14亞瑪謝殺了以東人回來，就把西珥的神像帶回，立為自己的神，在他面前叩拜燒香。
15Then the anger of the LORD burned against Amaziah, and He sent him a prophet who said to him, 'Why have you sought the gods of the people who have not delivered their own people from your hand?'
15因此，耶和華的怒氣向亞瑪謝發作，就差一個先知去見他，說：這些神不能救他的民脫離你的手，你為何尋求他呢？
16As he was talking with him, the king said to him, 'Have we appointed you a royal counselor? Stop! Why should you be struck down?' Then the prophet stopped and said, 'I know that God has planned to destroy you, because you have done this and have not listened to my counsel.'
16先知與王說話的時候，王對他說：誰立你作王的謀士呢？你住口罷！為何找打呢？先知就止住了，又說：你行這事，不聽從我的勸戒，我知道神定意要滅你。
17Then Amaziah king of Judah took counsel and sent to Joash the son of Jehoahaz the son of Jehu, the king of Israel, saying, 'Come, let us face each other.'
17猶大王亞瑪謝與群臣商議，就差遣使者去見耶戶的孫子、約哈斯的兒子、以色列王約阿施，說：你來，我們二人相見於戰場。
18Joash the king of Israel sent to Amaziah king of Judah, saying, 'The thorn bush which was in Lebanon sent to the cedar which was in Lebanon, saying, 'Give your daughter to my son in marriage.' But there passed by a wild beast that was in Lebanon and trampled the thorn bush.
18以色列王約阿施差遣使者去見猶大王亞瑪謝，說：利巴嫩的蒺藜差遣使者去見利巴嫩的香柏樹，說：將你的女兒給我兒子為妻。後來利巴嫩有一個野獸經過，把蒺藜踐踏了。
19'You said, 'Behold, you have defeated Edom.' And your heart has become proud in boasting. Now stay at home; for why should you provoke trouble so that you, even you, would fall and Judah with you?'
19你說：看哪，我打敗了以東人，你就心高氣傲，以致矜誇。你在家裡安居就罷了，為何要惹禍使自己和猶大國一同敗亡呢？
20But Amaziah would not listen, for it was from God, that He might deliver them into the hand [of Joash] because they had sought the gods of Edom.
20亞瑪謝卻不肯聽從。這是出乎神，好將他們交在敵人手裡，因為他們尋求以東的 神。
21So Joash king of Israel went up, and he and Amaziah king of Judah faced each other at Beth-shemesh, which belonged to Judah.
21於是以色列王約阿施上來，在猶大的伯示麥與猶大王亞瑪謝相見於戰場。
22Judah was defeated by Israel, and they fled each to his tent.
22猶大人敗在以色列人面前，各自逃回家裡去了。
23Then Joash king of Israel captured Amaziah king of Judah, the son of Joash the son of Jehoahaz, at Beth-shemesh, and brought him to Jerusalem and tore down the wall of Jerusalem from the Gate of Ephraim to the Corner Gate, 400 cubits.
23以色列王約阿施在伯示麥擒住約哈斯(就是亞哈謝)的孫子、約阿施的兒子、猶大王亞瑪謝，將他帶到耶路撒冷，又拆毀耶路撒冷的城牆，從以法蓮門直到角門，共四百肘；
24[He took] all the gold and silver and all the utensils which were found in the house of God with Obed-edom, and the treasures of the king's house, the hostages also, and returned to Samaria.
24又將俄別以東所看守神殿裡的一切金銀和器皿，與王宮裡的財寶都拿了去，並帶人去為質，就回撒瑪利亞去了。
25And Amaziah, the son of Joash king of Judah, lived fifteen years after the death of Joash, son of Jehoahaz, king of Israel.
25以色列王約哈斯的兒子約阿施死後，猶大王約阿施的兒子亞瑪謝又活了十五年。
26Now the rest of the acts of Amaziah, from first to last, behold, are they not written in the Book of the Kings of Judah and Israel?
26亞瑪謝其餘的事，自始至終不都寫在猶大和以色列諸王記上麼？
27From the time that Amaziah turned away from following the LORD they conspired against him in Jerusalem, and he fled to Lachish; but they sent after him to Lachish and killed him there.
27自從亞瑪謝離棄耶和華之後，在耶路撒冷有人背叛他，他就逃到拉吉；叛黨卻打發人到拉吉，將他殺了。
28Then they brought him on horses and buried him with his fathers in the city of Judah.
28人就用馬將他的屍首馱回，葬在猶大京城他列祖的墳地裡。
